An exhilarating walk, this stretch of coastline has it all: stunning views, unique wildlife and a rich history. Head off from Whitehaven's 17th century harbour, following the wagon way til you reach the St Bee's coastal path. With the only breeding colony of black guillemots in England, this is the place for bird spotting - there's an RSPB viewing point where you can spot puffins, terns and of course, black guillemots.
For even better views:
Climb up through the fields to get a full panorama of the Lakeland Fells, Snaefull on the Isle of Man and the Scottish hills of Dumfries and Galloway.
