FESTIVAL OF THE SEA - ISLE OF WIGHT
Friday 23rd June - Friday 9th July
If you’re going to have a festival of the sea, with 57 miles of coastline, you couldn’t find a better place than the Isle of Wight. And they really do it in style. Marathon midnight walks around the island, a pirate festival where you can brush up your sword skills, a Mardi Gras parade (yes, really!), a concert performance of ‘Carnival at Sea’ and of course, the world famous Round the Island yacht race. There will hardly be time to take your shoes off for a paddle.
CHATSWORTH FLOWER SHOW
Wednesday 7th - Sunday 11th June
This one is for gardeners and non-gardeners alike. The first Chatsworth Flower Show promises to be an inspirational day out. Chatsworth is landscaped by Capability Brown, so the bar is set high. The exhibitors will be hoping not to be outshone by the location. The show gardens look to be ground-breaking (no pun intended…) from ‘A Moveable Feast’ to an ‘Enchanted Garden’.
Tuesday 20th - Saturday 24th June
Pomp and ceremony. The most royal of horse racing. A cornucopia of fashion and style. Royal Ascot is the place to be seen. The Queen has attended every Royal Meeting in her reign, and each day starts with a royal procession. Then the racing starts. And the hearts stop! Many of the world’s finest racehorses compete for over £6 million in prize money. But the day doesn’t end when the racing draws to a close. Party into the evening with live music and delicious food.
THE COTSWOLDS DISTILLERY BRAMBLE
Preparation time: 10 mins. Cooking time: 40 mins.
World Gin Day on the 10th June is up there with all the most important calendar dates. Now we know national days are ten-a-penny but a whole 24 hours dedicated to the joys of the great juniper-flavoured drink is 24 hours we’re not prepared to miss out on. One of our favourites is a boutique lavender and bay leaf blended gin from the Cotswolds Distillery. Basically, it’s delicious and made with local botanicals – just how we like it. Here they share their simple Bramble recipe with us.
