10th February - 11th March 2018
There’s no denying that we’re still a little way off t-shirt weather. If you can’t wait for the summer months, Kew Gardens have a solution. Dive into the tropical heat of Thailand with a visit to their annual Orchids Festival. The immersive celebration of culture, colours and magnificent plant life will put that winter feeling firmly in the past.
YORK LITERATURE FESTIVAL
15th March - 26th March 2018
A city steeped in culture and history, York is the ideal location for a festival. Do not fear - leave the tents and wellies at home and roll up for an inspiring selection of poetry, theatre, readings and workshops. The venues span the city, allowing you to dip your toes into poetry on a river cruise or sit back and relax in York Theatre Royal or even Betty’s Tea Rooms.
THE BOAT RACE
24th March 2018
In a spectacle as old as time itself, watch Oxford and Cambridge battle for victory on the river Thames. All in aid of Cancer Research UK, the university teams will navigate a four mile stretch with a separate race for men and women. Luckily, spectating is a far easier sport and you can bag yourself a free spot anywhere from Putney to Chiswick Bridge to watch the drama unfold.
In his book ‘New Classics’, Marcus Wareing describes his plum clafoutis as a ‘sweet version of a Yorkshire pudding.’ Whilst the French might have a little something to say about that, it’s certainly a yes from us. This classic, melt-in-the-mouth dessert with its summer fruit filling brings to mind alfresco dining and long, warm days. Think of it as a preview of what’s to come.
