Style solved: What should I wear to the tennis?
25 May 2021
Ace that dress code with our guide to dressing for cinch Championships.
Finally summer is in clutching distance and it’s set to be like no other. Along with barbecues, pub gardens and restaurants (we’ll order the whole menu, please), the top of our most anticipated comebacks? Sport. So we couldn’t be more excited that this year we’re Official Outfitter to the Lawn Tennis Association for four top-class tennis events, including cinch Championships at The Queen’s Club.
We’ll be kitting out the ball crew and on-court officials (look out for neat polos decorated with a little Crew flourish) but sometimes knowing what to wear to the tennis as a guest – with all the celebrities, etiquette and heat – can be a whole different ball game. So we’ve pulled together a little guide as to the outfit you need, whether you’ve got a ticket to cinch Championships or you’ll be cheering through the screen. Summer, here we come.
Prime tickets? This is your moment to dress up and our Mable dress hits just the right note. The cuffed sleeves draw attention to the nipped-in waist and the skirt flares at the bottom to add swirl as you walk. The cotton construction will keep you cool and the light hue will pop against sun-kissed skin. If you’ve got access to the President’s Room, team with heeled espadrilles but for everywhere else, style with our flatform espadrilles.
A blazer is a must. As are chinos. We recommend our blazer crafted from linen which is super breathable and will keep you cool. The weave of the fabric allows air to flow, is moisture-wicking and conducts heat, keeping you even cooler. Our straight chinos are equally heat-appropriate. In the President’s Room you’ll need to wear a tie. For everywhere else, choose a white linen button-up – refined and our best-ever quality.
If you’ll be in the hospitality areas, team with our deck shoes that are summery but still smart. Otherwise, go for smart white trainers. You’ll want sunglasses too – there’s nothing worse than a squint ruining your view. Our Wayfarer shades have effortless cool running through them. Just take David Beckham as your style inspiration.
Heading to cinch Championships but not got the best seats in the house? This means you’re freer to soak up the atmosphere, famous faces, strawberries, and oh and did we mention the Pimm’s? For this you want a floaty floral number. Our Jilly dress has a flattering wrap design and a tiered skirt that gives plenty of swish. Shoulders will be kept covered from the midday sun and the v neckline begs to show off a dainty necklace.
Make sure your look includes a pair of great sunglasses. Throw a denim jacket over your shoulders and team with our tan and white sandals. A whole day on your feet will feel no effort at all.
The manicured grounds call for a smart causal outfit that hits this fine line perfectly. Our striped shirt gives enough interest that you won’t feel bare without a tie or blazer. The long sleeves add formality without looking over-the-top. Simply roll up one or two notches.
We love this paired with our tapered trousers. Turn up at the hem and team with deck shoes or minimalist trainers. You won’t look like you tried but you’ll look every inch as cool as that magnum of rosé Champagne – we guarantee.
There’s no need to be wishing you were there in the action when you have your own beverages on tap, can create an exquisite garden party (see our guide) and don’t need to worry about hiring seat cushions. Watching from the living room calls for the comfiest of ensembles. Try our star jumper in rainbow, candy-inspired hues with the matching shorts. It’s soft for guaranteed hygge, even if the match is making you as tense as can be.
Comfort is king, as they say, which is why we’re always turning to our crossed oars joggers. Try black or grey marl. Our classic t-shirt makes the perfect partner and throw on a hoodie or sweatshirt if needed. If Novak Djokovic was watching at home, we suspect this is what he’d be wearing. While we can’t predict who’ll win cinch Championships, we can predict you’re going to be looking ace – which after the year we’ve had, feels all the more glorious than ever.
